How to Prepare Your Yard for a Fourth of July Celebration

by Waverly Wilde

This Independence Day may be a more intimate one than your usual holiday extravaganza, but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate it in style! From watching the firework spectacle to lounging under your shady pergola with close family, we’ve come up with just the setup to get your yard prepared for the fun. It’s time to ignite the grill, sip on something cool, and get your backyard into the American spirit for a Fourth of July celebration!

Land of the Free from Weeds

The best way to start a project is with a clean slate, so if your yard could use a bit of bush trimming and weed pulling, now’s the time to do it! It’s understandable that this could be overwhelming depending on the current situation of your landscape, so no need to go overboard giving your yard a facelift. Try pulling as many weeds as you can, but if your time is limited, just get the larger and more distracting ones. The same goes for trimming and cutting back trees. As long as you have enough space for people to mingle, you probably won’t need to shave off much of your denser plants. And remember, you can even strategically place chairs, yard decor, and other items in the way of these obstructions to keep the focus away from the wildness of your yard.

Liberty to Lounge

Historically, July 4th has been a hot day known to get into the triple digits, so ensuring that there is good lounging furniture for everyone to sit and relax is ideal. A large outdoor couch with soft cushions makes for a cozy setup, but the lounging experience doesn’t stop there. Make sure to have a coffee table or side table for food and drinks so everyone has the opportunity to be hands-free for fun outdoor activities. If your backyard gets full sun throughout the day, consider setting your seating underneath a tree, the roofed patio, or another shaded area for a more comfortable arrangement.

Star-Spangled Bites

When there is good food and drinks, everyone is happy. Take that sentiment just a step further by putting a Fourth of July spin on your snacks and drinks. This cheese and berry bite is the perfect appetizer to keep in theme with the holiday. Add this mini pie dessert tri-colored beverage to get a very American red, white, and blue menu for your Fourth of July celebration.

Red, White, and Blue Decor

Give your backyard a little taste of American pride by subtly implementing red, white, and blue throughout. A simple red table cloth blanketing your outdoor dinner table could be all the red you need while you sprinkle white and blue decor throughout your space. Perhaps white plates and blue napkins atop your red tablecloth is just the minimalist aesthetic to give your Fourth of July celebration the sophistication you were aiming for.

We want your Fourth of July celebration to be a blast, so we hope these tips help when preparing your backyard for the festivities. But if you are needing any other furniture assistance while setting up your outdoor space, give us a call and we’d love to help you find the right pieces for your yard.
